How are the new flatbed scanners based on USB2.0 compared to SCSI
based scanners. Is it time to retire the SCSI scanner and go get
USB2.0 scanner?
or is this just pipe dream still? I would love to give up the scsi
just to simplify my computer a bit. Lets see, SCSI solutions, takes
up a PCI slot, the cable is so big and unweildy. USB? just a thin cable

Interface-wise SCSI is fast enough. Especially since SCSI routinely
reaches its peak performance rating, while USB 2.0 often peaks at
15MB/sec or so.
Software side does not matter that much, USB is using the same command
set as SCSI.
As long as you are talking about standard/fast SCSI, USB2.0 should
be as good. If you are talking about some professional and expensive
hogh-resolution equipment with Ultra-SCSI, then forget USB.
However SCSI is still "professional market" while USB is mostly
"mass market". You might actually get a better scanner if you look
for SCSI.
