View Full Version : QD2004 - Reinvesting dividends -- fees??
Hi. Just installed Q Deluxe 2004. I have a number of DRIPs. In QD2003 and
before, when I got the statements, I would enter a transaction with amount
reinvested, # shares bought, fees, and then I could alter any of these,
include the share purchase price, to look like my statement. QD2004, under
the "Reinvest Dividend" option, has an irritating window that pops up and
allows me to enter ONLY the reinvested amount and # of shares. I can't
change the share purchase price (this is done mathemagically by Quicken and
doesn't exactly equal what's on my statement), and I can't add any fees
(this part is particularly bad). Looks like I may have to turn this into 2
transactions:
1) Income (dollars the dividend paid to my account), and
2) Shares bought (which does have an input for fees).
But this will never again show that these are 'reinvested dividends'. Does
anyone have any suggestions? I liked the old way. I used to be able to
just plug in any numbers I wanted to in just about any type of transaction,
and then modify the #s at will. The fee would adjust if necessary, which
was fine with me.
TIA for the help.

I agree that it is nice to have reinvested dividends classed as such, but in
fact, your workaround is what really is occurring: you get a dividend and
the company uses that dividend to buy shares, so your workaround is
technically more correct.
If you really want to keep the reinvested dividend classification (and if
you don't mind doing more work to get it), you could enter three
transactions: a reinvestment transaction for the amount that actually gets
reinvested, plus a dividend transaction for the amount of the fee, and a
miscellaneous expense transaction for the amount of the fee.
