View Full Version : Is This OK?

I just received a new computer system that was built and configured by
the (mail-order) company that sold it to me. The system has one HD and
one CD-ROM drive; the HD is connected to the primary IDE interface,
and the CD-ROM is connected to the secondary IDE interface. The BIOS
reports both the HD and the CD-ROM are configured as SLAVE - not
MASTER as I would have expected.
Why would someone do this? Is there a valid reason, or is this just
sloppy work on the part of the person who put everything together?
Should I take it all apart and re-jumper the drives as MASTER?
Thanks for your help!

If it works, it does not matter. The only problem is that sometimes
(rarely) it does not work. Maybe these things were jumerd wrong
or it is cable-select (often that factory default) and they were put
on the "slave" connector.

It's working fine, so I guess I won't worry about it. ;)

I would. Of course, I want things done right, not just working.
