Go to the web and buy a new one?
Seriously, these batteries have controllers that record their history
and protect the cells from being mishandled. Mishandled cells
can result in fire or explosion. This is a real risk with the
type of cells used!
Of course the manufacturers err on the side of cauthion, because this
way they avoid lawsuits and can sell more replacement batteries.
Replacing the cells yourself is not a good idea, unless you are an
expert in the technology. If you have to ask, then you are not
qualified. I am not saying thet you would be unsuccessful, it
is just a high-risk modification/repair to perform in the sense
that it can fail far worse than just not working.

How old is your Thinkpad?
In many years of dealing with hundreds of PC's (some of them quite old)
I have never, ever had to replace a battery.

Don't know Jeremy, it's ex-lease, I bought it from DME
When disconnected from the mains the battery gives about ten minutes life
despite initially indicating 4 hours time.
