View Full Version : How to remove FDD bezel?
Hi,
Today, I bought a Sony Floppy Disk Drive to replace a defective
floppy drive in the computer. The Sony FDD bezel need to be removed
so the drive can fit behind the pc front cover. Please, offer some
instructions on how to properly do this, as my experience is nil in
this regard. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think some exploratory surgery is unavoidable. The details
of the drive mechanics can look different even on the same model
number.
From my experience with 3.5" FDDs there is usually a sheet
metal cover on one side that also covers the sides to some degree.
This is usually kept in place with two or more screws. If you
remove that cover (removing the screws should get it loose), you
might be able to see how the bezel is attached. I have seen both
snap-in and screwed on bezels.
The insides of a FDD are not a clean-room encironment. Don't touch
the actual R/W heads and don't use larger amounts of force and you
should be fine.

Most bezels are 'snap in'. The hooks are usually on the side, top &
bottom of the sides. Use a small scewdriver to release.
