Hi there,
I have a Dell XPS tower system I am using as a music server. When I try
to do a Windows network browse of the XPS system, it never wakes up and
takes the request. I have checked the BIOS and WOL seems to be enabled.
Any thoughts how I can get this to work?
TIA,
D
In order to wake up the PC, you need to send it a magic packet. When
WOL is enabled and the computer is off, the network card is still
enabled and can understand a special type of packet called a magic
packet.
When the network card receives this message, it tells the motherboard
to "wake up."
You can send this magic packet using a utility such as Depicus:

[If you really want to know the gory details, this "Magic" packet
essentially contains the MAC address of the computer you wish to wake
up 6 times, which when received by the network card, causes it to wake
up the motherboard]
