Hi all,

A friend just dropped their machine over because it was "slow". Apparently
was hour glassing a lot. I got the unit in and hooked it up. It booted up
very quick, no errors or issues at all. Ran NAV2005 (it already had that
installed) and while it was running the screen saver kept kicking on so I
got into the screen properties and turned it off as I applied those settings
it froze.

Since the machine doesn't have a reset button on it I had to unplug the
power. When I plugged it back in, it doesn't start up. It powers up, the
fans spin up, hear the hard drive and CD/DVD drives have power but the
monitor doesn't even detect the machine attached to it (it's in power saver
mode).

Do these machines need to sit for a while till they reset?

It's not beeping or anything.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin

I let it sit overnight and now it boots up fine. So I guess something reset
or discharged. Looks like a powersupply or HD problem. However, if anyone
out there has any other ideas please share!

Thanks,
Kevin

We had a lot of trouble we emachines' power supply fans dying. The
machines would overheat and shut off til they cooled down. Almost all
of our emachines needed power supply replacements over their 3 year
life span. Fortunately, they're all gone now...

Get speedfan or another mb monitoring utility and check the 5v line.
If it reads under 4.8, replace the power supply. They are notoriously
weak in emachines.

Thanks Chris, I need to try that.

Chris,

Question for you. I have speedfan running. One of the voltages is off. It
says -5V on the left but it's reading -1.78V. Is that something that needs
to be configured or is speedfan telling me that's it's off?

Thanks,

Kevin

That's funky, but I don't fret over the negative voltages, I don't
think they are used for much anymore. The biggy is the 5v line.
