Hello,

I recently upgraded my cpu from an AMD Athlon 900MHz to an Athlon XP
3000+. I also upgraded the memory from PC2100 to PC2700 to be
compatible w/the CPU. I have a Biostart M7VIT Pro MB. When I power up,
I keep getting a beep sound every 3-4 seconds. The disk is whirling,
the fans come on, but I get no video. I have tried pulling the video
card and reinserting. I reverted back to my old CPU and memory and I am
still getting the beeping. My BIOS is a phoenix and I couldn't find any
matching beep codes. Any ideas or suggestion of what could be wrong?

It may well be faulty memory. Can you try the memory in another machine?

Not good. That the original configuration does not work anymore
indicates a serious hardware problem. Maybe you overloaded the CPU
power regulators? (Yes, there are beep-codes for "no CPU", the
keyboard controller does them...). Biostar says you could use that
CPU, yet damaged regulatiors may work fine with a less power-hungry
CPU but die instantly when under full load. If the board is still
under warranty, you should return it.

One thing you could check before returning the board is whether the
Mainboard power connector is firmly seated. But I guess you did
pull and re-instert that one when changing the CPU.
