I'm building my first pc. I bought a PCChips M811LU motherboard and
duron 1.8 cpu. put in 256mb of pqi pc2100 ram.
Well, the system won't post or boot at all. No beeps nothing. Th
psu fan runs, the cpu fan runs, the hard drive comes on, the cd tra
opens & closes, but the system won't boot at all. Video screen stay
blank. I've checked and rechecked all connections...disconnected al
of them & reconnected again...connected only the bare essentials neede
to boot...still nothing.
I've checked around online and finally read that this board needs t
have the bios "flashed" in order to work with the duron 1.8 and the wa
to do that is to install a compatible cpu, boot the system and the
flash (update?) the bios. I do not have any other duron or athlon cpu
since this is my first experience with amd processors. Before I ge
another cpu...I'd like to know which ones are compatible with thi
board right off the bat...which cpu this board will recognize WITHOU
my having to flash the bios first.
Don't laugh...too hard, anyway. I'm a 48 year old mom who is sel
taught on computers and finds them fascinating and just a joy to pla
with. So a little help and much patience and indulgence will be greatl
appreciated. I started by taking apart a dinosaur 486 putting it bac
together (it still worked!) then putting together a small system wit
a pentium 133 then moved up to a 166 and now I'm ready to build
better one.
and also...I did not work on carpet when I installed the motherboard
cpu, and I wore an esd wrist strap at all times. There is no burnin
smell at all or anything like that when the power is on and the fan
are running.

Thank you all in advance

hi,
aside from ensuring that the video card, connection and monitor are FULLY
functional (if possible test on a working pc), try these sites
http://www.partspc.com/shop-bin/sc/productsearch.cgi?storeid=*1673e788daa5308716b1ac5efb

http://www.bzboyz.com/store/product2487.html

http://www.partspc.com/store/pcchip.htm

1. for example see what socket the motherboard supports:
(i think that it supports socket A)
make sure that the cpu you have is supposed to be in that socket

2. make sure that the memory you have is the correct memory for the
motherboard.

3. i'd ensure that the memory chips are ok (try on another pc)
(iow, ensure that the PCChips M811LU motherboard supports the components
that you have for it.)

Check that the "clear CMOS" jumper (JP1) is set to "normal". Also
start with an FSB setting of 100MHz (JP2: CPU Frequency Select
Jumper).
