I friend gave me a CD with some photos on it, and after resizing and editing them, I wanted to put them back on the CD - but could not - It said it was a CD-R and could not be re-opened - It was not "closed" as my diag software said it was "appendable" - so - what software writes in the CD-R format vs the CD-ROM-XA format that seems to be used by Adaptec Easy-CD Creator and Direct-CD

CD-ROM = Compact Disc - Read-Only Memory

You really should take the time to read the basics of CD recording at
one of the usual references: the CD-R FAQ or the primer at my WWW site.

Any mastering software will let you add a session to an unclosed disc.
However, that is not done from the program creating the file(s) but from
the mastering program. To write files directly to a CD-R (erasable or
write-once), you need to format it for packet writing. YOu report doing
that with DCD.

I do not recommend adding a UDF session to a disc with an ISO 9660 Level
2 already written, though it may work. Your best bet is to use packets -
DCD - throughout or to save up the files until you have enough to write
a fresh session.

Use DirectCD when you rejected it, Hit&Run Mikey?

I have used only DCD for packet writing,
have had no problems due to the software -
but too many due to the format itself

to bother with it any longer.

uninstalled DCD
when I stopped testing for Roxio

The above Mikey's statement is the first ever case in which a Shill is
rejecting the very product IT is shilling for.

With a Shill like this, cRoxio doesn't need any critics!

just as a followup -
I use the Adaptec CD Creator on my machine,
and the HP Writer software diag program
reports the CD format as CD-ROM-XA & appendable -

I asked the person that gave me the CD what he used
to create the CD, and he said Nero 5.5 -
Now when I pop this CD into the HP Writer software diag program,
it reports that the CD is formatted as CD-R & appendable.

I wonder if Adaptec CD Creator "always" writes in CD-ROM-XA format,
or if there is a way to force the common/default CD-R format ?
BTW - I tried both the "drive letter" and "all at once" methods...
Phil -

PLEASE read one of the usual references: the CD-R FAQ or the primer at
my WWW site. Rewriting the primer for basic questions is a waste of time.

The "common/default CD-R format" is XA. You are free to choose Mode 1 in
ECDC if you wish.
