I took a CD-R audio disk I burned using my external firewire drive to
Circuit City today to test some car stereos. The disk will not play on the
Clarion CD player that was standard equipment on my 2001 car or on my Sony
Walkman or even on WMP 7 on my PC. (The error message on WMP says, "cannot
read digital info."

The only player I have that will read the disk is an Apex DVD.

The CD (burned at 12X) would _not_ play on every deck labeled "CD-R
Compatible" It played on a lost cost Sony deck and on a Panasonic which I
bought.

I didn't have the deck installed and have 30 days to return it but I hate to
replace the stereo in my car unless I absolutely have to. The CD-RW drive is
a BusLink 1394 external drive (48x-12x-48x) that I can still return.

Any suggestions?

The Buslink drive is a Lite-On LTR-48125W. The main problem I've had with it
is not recognizing the media though I've been able to copy CDs and back up
my hard drive on CD-RW. I ran a hardware diagnostic test on Norton and it
reads "no media in tray."

If I return the drive to CompUsa I will have to pay a $15.00 "open box
return" fee.

news:3F022D00.8020505@mjwebsitedesign.com... A couple of years ago I did the same test on car CD players. I found that all new Sony, Aiwa, Phillips, and some Alpines played CDR and CDRWs. I got a Sony and it has played everything I've burnt without any problems. If I were to get one today I'd go for something like a Sony CDXMP30 that also has MP3 capability as well. You're looking at approximately 180 songs per CDR/CDRW. I'm currently using a Rio SP50 portable and Apex 1000 DVD player for MP3 CDs and I'm sold on the format. Getting back to your original problem- I'd try a different type media to begin with. I doubt if your burner is at fault, many Buslinks were Lite-on brands that have had a very good media compatibility history with the exception of some blue dye CDRs. Looks like I've solved the problem. It was the media. I was using silver Memorex CD-R disks.

Based on the comments in ng's and other forums, Memorex has a poor
reputation for audio. Because of that, I simply avoid that brand.
