I gave the label a good look over. Memorex takes full credit for this
unit - good or bad as it is. There is no other indication - including an
absence of FCC ID - to tell me the actual OEM.

I used to be good at ID'ing hardware by a quick look-see. The newer stuff
has gotten ahead of me. So I can't really figure it out at this point.

I guess for $100, I'll hang onto it, set it up, & see how it goes. Whether
it works well or poorly, I'll be sure to post so it's on the archives.

Hi All: I just picked up a decent deal on a Memorex 2.4X DVD+RW drive ($100N.I.B). I have a short return window that I can give the drive back if I want
to. As such, I'm wondering if anybody has anything good or bad to say aboutthis drive. Is it worth keeping, or did I make a mistake. FWIW, I'm not too concerned about 2.4X vs 4X. I'm more concerned with reliability and easeof use. I'll be using it to do hard drive backups instead of spanning CD-R media as I do now. All advice appreciated.Ummm........take a look at the label on the drive and see if you candetermine the manufacturer that actually made the drive. With that information people may be able to give you better opinions or youmay be able to find reviews by using Google.--callsignviperThe truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and askthe right questions.

I lucked into the drive's OEM. I believe it is a Ricoh MP-5125. This link
looks & specs like my drive with only minor differences in logo art.

Anybody have real world experience with this drive? I remember the Ricoh
burners of yore were kind of junky. I hope they've gotten better over the
years....

Please share your knowledge.....

Except the price! ;-)I have seen a few CDRW drives that were like that.........no indication ofthe manufacturer.........just the packager's information. If you do discover the actual manufacturer please post the information. I
amcurious because I might be able to pick up a Memorex DVD writer beingclearanced by Office Depot for about the same price as yours. Perhaps thesame drive will be in the Memorex box.--callsignviperThe truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and askthe right questions..

I didn't see anything on this writer at www.cnet.com just at
asia.cnet.....dunno why.

Above review was favorable so your drive should be fine.

HTH.
