View Full Version : I can't write to a blank CD-RW
D: Drive= New Cendyne 48x12x48
E: Drive= Old HP 8100 series 4x24x2.
Nero Express v5.5.9.15D, Ahead InCD v3.39.0 packet writing software.
Pentium 4, 512MB DDR, Hyperthread, Windows XP Home Edition.
Both CD writers play music CDs, show and execute files in Explorer,
and are okay in Device Manager.
Enabled Recording on the particular drive I am trying to write to.
I can't write to a blank CD-RW. I just put together a new computer
from which I was able to burn a couple of CD-Rs with no problem using
Nero.
Thinking it was a Nero problem with the CD-RW I completely uninstalled
Nero and installed CDBruner Pro XP. It still won't write. Both CD-RW
disks (Verbatim 2X-4X speed and Imation) are new and unformatted by
other software.
I have a compiled CD-RW with my backup programs on it written with
Nero. I can see the files and execute them off the CD but I can't
write additional files to it. However I didn't use packet writing
software with it, even though I didn't have Finalize checked.
I just tried a burn to a new blank CD-RW (non-packet written) and it
appeared to burn sucessfully. However, when I examine the CD-RW there
is nothing on it. It is blank.
I just tried a different brand CD-RW media (new Verbatim 2x-4x speed)
on my Cendyne burner and let InCd format it for multi-session. Drive
is Recording Enabled. Auto-ejected after a few minutes with error code
[0000-0000-0000-0000].
Tried INCD on my HP CD Writer, Recording Enabled. Would also not
complete formatting. InCd error code [0051-0005-0064-0000].
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try CDRW disks that are 10x-12x speed rated and your problem will probably
magically disappear.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Ooooooeee! I think you hit on something. :-)
Sometimes the simplest remedy is overlooked.
Thanks. Heading out to buy some quality higher speed disks.
Deleted Nero and Ahead InCD the best I could. Very hard to get rid of.
Deleted in rgistry evey mention of Nero, Ahead, InCD.
Dumped CDBurnerXP Pro also. No burning software except WinXP's
installed. Tried to burn new CD-RW with XP and it hangs. Won't burn.
Using my old trusty HP CD Writer that I know works from my old
computer.

Sorry to hear the new media didn't fix the problem. In a lot of similar
situations.a media change has solved the problem.
There is always a slight possibility the CDRW drive is defective. If
feasible you might want to test it another system to see if it is fully
functional.
Good luck.

Thanks for your post.
I have the same problem with another drive so I'm sure it is not that.
Someone asked with MSCONFIG if I see
"IMAPI CD-Burning COM service". Yes but it is not running.
I uninstalled both CD writers and booted up. Then I went into the
registry and deleted every instance of Nero, Ahead, and InCD that I
could find. Tuned of computer, installed just the new CD writer and
tried to copy a file in Explorer to my CD D: drive. Hey, it worked.
I erased the CD with WinXP. I installed Ahead InCD v3.39.0 and let it
format the CD-RW. It worked! Never was sure I was able to coplete this
step before. I tied to install Nero Express and I got error message. "
This wizard was interrupted before Nero Burning Rom could be completly
installed. You system has not been modified....". I tried again and no
luick. Instead I then installed the full verion 5.5.10.35 Nero-
Burning ROM.
In Windows Explorer I tried dragging a small text file to my newly
formatted CD-RW. No luck. Error message, "UDF drive error
[0028-0003-0002-0000] This RW disc has no available substitute
sectors...". WindowsXP hang and I have to reboot.
I'm thinking it just has to be a Nero problem, seeing as I could copy
a file to the drive with WinXP. I really need the packet writing
though for my CD-RWs.
Evidentally InCD will not do what I expect it to. I'm not reinstalling it.
End of thread. Thanks.

InCd 4.x will not support older CDRW's, yet!
To find out if it is supporting yours, right click on options to see if
the box is checkable, or blanked out.
