This happens on both my CD-ROM and CD-RW Drives The CD-RW is the worse of the two, it also makes a popping sound in the audio during playback I also get this problem occasionally when extracting audio from a CD.
I infer (honest, it's a lot easier if you tell us) that pressed discs do
not have the problem. Guessing further (again, it would help), you have
the problem to different degrees with different media. If so, then you
probably are writing with high error rates and there's a good deal of
rereading going on - and possibly quite a few errors are getting through.
Try Ahead's CDSpeed to see how well you're writing, then lock onto a
line of blanks which works well. Half price for a disc that records half
the music is not a bargain.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the response.
I did mention in my original post that the problem occured with both 'original' (I should have
used the word 'pressed') and also backups (CD-R)
When I use CD DAE to rip tracks I make sure that they have a zero error rate before going further.
I have no problem with any of my backup discs playing them in standard CD players.
Your help is appreciated
Regards
Richard

Let us know what happens when you run CDSpeed. The issue is not how well
the recordings sound in standard machines but what error rates they have
when read on the computer. Check the usual references - the CD-R FAQ or
the primer at my WWW site - on error concealment and related issues, but
do measure the error rates to see if that's where your problem originates.
