After I installed Nero 5.5.10.7 on my sister no Fujitsu-Siemens laptop I
attempted to copy the installation CD to see if Nero worked properly and
because I needed to back up all the drivers and utilities CD's that came
with the computer.
Since there was only one burner (CD/DVD-RW) Nero copied the installation CD
to an image file and then I inserted and 8x 800MB PNY CD-R whcih was the
fastest media I had at hand. Nero said it could not burn at the maximum
speed of 16x so set the speed to 8x times then before it could write the
image to the disc it stopped with an error message with "SCSI" in it. My
sisters laptop is not SCSI so I could not understand who there should be an
error in that respect. Anyway I started all over again and set the write
speed manually to 4x thinking that the problem might be the brand of CD-R.
Nero started writing but half way through it stopped and came up with
another error message saying it could not complete the recording even though
the CD/DVD-RW was compatible with JustLink and JustSpeed.
I could not figure out what was going wrong so I installed Nero on my own PC
and attempted to copy the Nero installation CD using my Plextor 40max as
reader and Ricoh 7040S (now a 7060S after I updated the firmware) as writer.
Nero gave told me ther was a buffer under run during the simulation at 6x
on-the-fly. I then tried to do a simulation at 4x on-the-fly. This time it
came up with a error message of something like "unspecified parameter" and
would not burn. I tried it again after a reboot but still I got the same
problem so I dug up my old copy of CDRWin 3.8C and did a simulation at 4x
and that worked and found that there were two Audio tracks at the end the
Nero CD. I then did a full copy on-the-fly at 4x on a new PNY CD-R and that
was perfect.
After that I decided to listen to the Audio tracks and all they were was two
humming sounds with track 3 at a lower frequency to track two.
So the question is what is the problem. Is Nero 5.5.10.7 bugged or are the
audio track at the end of the CD the problem. I have the latest ASPI layer
installed on my PC and presumably Windows XP is full up to date on my
sisters laptop.
Another problem I had is when I tried to read a PacetCD formatted CD-RW on
the laptop some of the folder on the CD were empty even though they are full
and can be read on my own PC. Is this a problem with Windows XP. There is a
copy of Nero's own packet writing software on the Nero CD-Rom but I have not
installed that yet. Will it make any difference and is it safe to install
it. Does XP have it own packet writing software and if so how do I format
CD-RW's with it.

Those 'humming' audios are the special sounds for test/calibrate(?) -
forgot what the purpose is. The sounds are as they should be.

Winxp has built-in support to read (but not write) udf discs IF the udf
discs are made conforming to the udf standard. Winxp's inability to
read the PacketCD disc indicates that the disc does not compliant to the
udf standard.
InCD is xp-compatible. But before installing it, disable winxp's
built-in burn function:
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, and double-click
"IMAPI CD Burning", click Stop, then set "Startup type" as
"Disabled".
(After InCD install, it may read the PacketCD disc.)
(Check out 'KCK' InCD troubleshoot guide, S11 and S11-4, in case of
trouble.)
