I have HP CD-Writer Plus 9300 serier installed on my computer. It has a
headphone jack on the front panel next to a volume control. When I play a
music CD I can hear the music just fine on my PC's speakers. I want to
listen to the music on my headphones but when I plug in the headphone to the
front panel jack the music still continues to come out of the PC's speakers
and nothing comes out of the headphones. I want to somehow turn off the PC
speakers and only listen to the music through the headphones. What am I
doing wrong?

Thanks Tom

You are not doing anything wrong! By default Windows configures CD drives
to play audio using DAE via the ribbon cable. When the drive plays in
digital mode, the headphone output is not available. Configure the drive
(and Media player) to play in analogue mode. You will of course need an
audio connector between the player and the sound card if you want sound to
come out of the PC speakers in this mode - and have the sound card input
switched on in the mixer. The only disadvantage of playing in analogue mode
is that CD text will not be displayed, but as no standard players can
display CD text anyway, this is no great loss.
