VA-503+ mobo (VIA MVP3), K6-2 500, 512 MB RAM and a 40 GB HD with 70%
free space. This machine sits in my shop as a backup, and the burner
probably has no more than a dozen hours on it.
Last week, I burned some downloaded drivers with it. (Which is one of
it's main uses). Often, I will disconnect the CDRW, install a second
HD from a client's machine I'm working on, copy files to my HD,
re-install the CD-RW, and burn the copied files to a backup disk
before re-formatting the client's HD.
Today, (the first time I've booted the machine with the CDRW connected
since I burned the audio drivers last week.) BIOS doesn't detect the
drive, the green LED stays on constantly, and the tray won't open. I
powered the machine down and opened the tray with a paper clip. There
is nothing in it. I tried booting the machine with the eject button
held in, which resets some drives. It made no difference. I've tried
it as master and slave on both IDE channels (not as the primary
master, obviously), and when set as slave on the primary, BIOS refuses
to see not only the CDRW, but the hard drive as well.
Thoughts? Time for a RMA?
Thanks, CJon
