OS: Partitions Windows XP Professional/Mandrake Linux 8.2 (working on KDE)
DVD/CD drive: QSI DVD-Rom SDR-081
CD-Burner: Acer 6406EU - 134, CDRW 6x4x6
Burning software: on Windows: Nero 6, on Linux: KreateCD (and X-CD-Roast)
Hi,
I`ve got a plobem with reading self-made CDs on my Linux partition.
Although they display and can be read correctly under Windows, when I
access my DVD/CD drive from Linux, either no files at all seem to be
detected or they show up incorrectly and/or incompletely. I cannot open
them from any applications either. I`ve searched the web and FAQ pages
but haven`t found a solution yet. I`ve tried different ways to tackle
the problem but it still doesn`t work:
Commercial CDs:
Nothing shows up on mnt/cdrom, but I can play music with CD-Player and
DVDs/VideoCds with Gnome ViedeoLAN client without any difficulties
I`ve burnt text files, mp3s, PDF, JPEG images, webpages, and other file
types on CD-R recordables (80, 700MB) - not rewritables:
With Nero on Windows:
Linux doesn`t detect the Cds on mnt/cdrom at all. I`ve tried different
ways of burning: ISO Level 1, Mode 1 and Mode 2/XA, ISO 9660, no relax
ISO restrictions, no Joliet, no multisession, Finalize CD, TAO/DAO
With KreateCD on Linux:
Cds can be read correctly on Windows, so the burning seems to work
properly. On Linux mnt/cdrom, however, not all files show up, some file
names are messed up, random folders are created and some files are
placed there. I`ve burnt CDs in "Win Joliet and Rock Ridge" and
alternatively in only "Rock Ridge" mode and finalized them. I doesn`t
make any difference.
With X-CD-Roast on Linux:
CDs (Rock Ridge and Joliet mode, with ISO image) are read neither on
Wondows nor on Linux so I`ve given up.
Does anyone have any suggestions? (I only know how to work on the KDE
desktop as I`m a newbie.) Do I need to change any settings, install a
special driver or rpm package?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kat
