Please help: Song crx230ed problem

I am having a serious problem with this drive! When I first put it into
my pc it worked fine reading discs and burninging them. I then gave the
drive to my dad to put in his pc and it wouldnt work, it could not
detect any discs in it(it seemefd the drivers werent installed
properly, even though they should be automaticall installed by
windows). He tried updating the firmware which had no effect. I have
since put the drive back into my PC and it still cannot detect any
discs. I updated the firmware to 4s03 after reading this
(http://club.cdfreaks.com/lite/t-101487.html). After a restart the
drive still didnt recognise the disc that was aleady in the drive, but
then I put in an audio cd which it successfully played, so i put in an
ordinary cd-rom which it also read ok! However when i came back to the
pc I had the same problem, it couldnt not detect the disc. I tried the
newer firmware, 4s07, which has not had any effect.

I really would like to get this drive working as i know it is capable
of working correctly, i just dont know what is wrong with it or what to
do about it anymore. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Do the usual check in Device Manager like the drive is working properly,
DMA is on.

If you are on winxp, Right-click the drive, Properties, AutoPlay tab,
and check the actions associated with various content types, like Music
files, Blank cd, Audio cd, etc. This "Autoplay Repair Wizard" will
fix/reset to the default setting:
