CD Not detected in drive

Hello there,

I have Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 with TEAC DW28E CD-RW/DVD Rom drive.
My CD drive was working just fine a week back. But now it is giving me
problems. I can see the CD drive in My computer. However, I cannot
access the CD in the drive. After double-click on the CD drive in my
computer, it opens blank window like a blank CD inserted.

I tried cleaning up the lens, uninstalling/re-installation of driver
but still the problem persists.

Please help, suggest some solutions those I can try to get the CD drive
working.

Some questions first:

1. Does it see a recorded DVD?
2. Does it see a blank CD-R?

If it sees the DVD but not a CD, then the CD optics may be failed or
dirty and cleaning may help. If it sees neither, then something is
seriously wrong.

If it does not see the blank CD-R, then something is definitely wrong
which probably means either replacement or in-warranty repair.

Sounds like the drive may have reached its end. Does Device Manager
show any abnormality? If you run winxp, try "Autoplay Repair Wizard":
