HDA50 CD-ROM

I hate to admit to being a computer professional since 1997 and not
being able to crack this one.

I made a copy of what I thought was a standard CD in the year 2000. I
have recently been backing up ALL my CDs to my external hard drive.
For some reason I cannot read this CD-ROM and making a copy of it got
me know where. I can see the label "HDA50" in Windows Explorer.

How can I change the format to a readable one for Windows so I can
recover this data?

As you are surely aware, you cannot change the format on a CD - it's
called Read-Only Memory for a reason.

There are too many possibilities here to enumerate even if I could guess
them all. You've passed some crucial tests: the disc does stabilize and
it has been written (at least for its name). Explorer should at least
tell you how much space has been used, which is a start. If there's
space used, ISOBuster may get it for you. In fact, ISOBuster is a good
place to start (CD/DVD Diagnostic or Inspector is better, but they're
far from free). You might have a second session hiding the first, hidden
files or - well, see what it has to say.

FYI: As a professional, you surprise me by using Explorer when there are
competent file managers around.

FYI: Windows Explorer is the standard file manager for MS Windows since
3.x
Surprised you assumed I was using a web browser (MSIE) for that.

Still nobody needs that. If it's any further consolation to you, he's
now reduced to slinking around.

As for your problem, since the disc is recognized, there's some hope one
of these programs may recover some files. Try IsoBuster first as it's
free for non-udf recovery.

No, Explorer has been Microsoft's file manager, standard only by their
lights. I provided a beta site for Central Pointfor several years; I
dropped out of that effort when Symantec bought and butchered the product.

Explorer is primitive and awkward; a comparison with a real file manager
such as Power Desk should have persuaded you of its limitations. And
there is nothing that I said which imnplied any confusion between
Explorer and MSIE.

Meanwhile, may I suggest that your time might be better spent than
misreading unquoted posts? Perhaps by determining whether space has been
used on the disc and whether you have an open packet session (or one
closed to UDF 1.5 and no ability to read that on your system).

ego. BTW....I have NO IDEA how/why it came out in this format. But it
was a CD I burned in 2000 so I was a little less skilled then.

It was a rather expensive (never used it though) software programming
suite. I was able to recover ALL data using the ISOBuster.

The HDA50 (CD label) thru me for a loop cuz when u do searches on that
a bunch of Linux stuff comes up.
