Software to burn data DVDs

I just got a Sony DVD/CD drive (Model DRX-710UL), primarily to burn
slide shows of digital and slide pix. But I also want to be able to use
it for data, backups, etc.

The DVD drive came with Nero and InCD software, and it looks like InCd
would be good for my data use. However, the ProShowGold software I use
for slideshow production is incompatible with InCd so I can't use it.

Is there another program that won't jam up the computer or crash the
other program that will do my work?

What Windows are you using? What do you get when you open Nero? Do you
get StartSmart, Nero Express? You use Nero, not InCD, to burn the files
ProShowGold makes. What's the file extension? (Note: Most InCD
troubles stem from the conflicts with Roxio junk.)

Nero will do it - and without InCD. If you want to write fixed-length
packets, you will need InCD or an equivalent and that will probably give
rise to the incompatibility. So either use a different approach - such
as mastering your data - or find a different slide program.

Yes. I've already b urned a couple of disks with ProShowGold
successfully.
I haven't loaded Nero yet, until I work out what I can run with
what. The disk that Sony provided has (according to the Quick Start
Guide): Nero StartSmart, NeroExpress and Nero Burning ROM, Nero
ShowTime, Nero Vision Express, as well as InCD.

Suggest disable IMAPI:
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, double-click "IMAPI CD
Burning", click Stop, then set "Startup type" as "Disabled".

Install Nero. You will have StartSmart icon on the desktop. After open
StartSmart, mouse over the icons. For example, when you mouse over the
Star icon, it lists functions like "Make Data CD", "Make Data DVD",
etc. Click "Make Data DVD" if you want to make DVD-ROM (ISO).

I use ProShow Gold 2.5 and find it to be excellent.
There were some DVD burning issues with earlier versions - get on to
their website and download the latest version build 2.05.1620, there
are no longer problems with burning DVDs.

Whilst I had problems with the earlier version, I just saved an ISO
image to my hard drive, and burned the DVD using Image Tool (I think)
which requires the Nero engine.

Either way, you can't do much better than ProwShow Gold...
