Does the router have a "keep alive" option for the pppoe connection?

news:50f74ee2.0306190317.3e65b30f@posting.google.com... I'm stumped :( I have an original (BEFW11S4 - ver. 1) Linksys Cable/DSL Router with 4-port switch... up until a few weeks ago the thing has worked pretty darn well... but then... I bought a new nForce2 mobo for my gaming PC and built up my 2nd computer with some spare parts (so two computers on the Ethernet ports - not wireless). Up until that 2nd computer came into the picture, I had been using my laptop and my wife's computer on wireless NICs (and they were working beautifully as well). However, for some reason my router has been totally flaky ever since adding that 4th computer to my LAN and continually drops my connection to my ISP (using PPPoE in the router). The only way for me to get it back is to reboot the router, or shut down the DSL modem and THEN reboot the router (worst case). Then my connection will stay up for a few hours, maybe a day or two at most... but sure enough, I come downstairs and my Ethernet light on my DSL modem is off (showing that the router is no longer responding to it) and the router says "Connecting" on my Status panel for the PPPoE connection. I'm totally baffled here.... all I have on the router is ONE computer right now (just the Internet PC I built) and I have no idea if the connection will be up by the time I finish writing this... Has anyone had this problem? I don't know if it's my router (I'm assuming it is), my DSL connection, or a really pissed off Ethernet card that is scrambling the router somehow (maybe?)... Any experience with a lost PPPoE connection using Linksys routers? My firmware is current (1.44.2z as of 12/13/02) and the Linksys FAQ is useless... Thanks in advance to anyone that knows anything! I'm going nuts over here! - JC
