Hi

I'm probably going to embarrass myself by using all the wrong terms here but
here goes!!

I need to connect a PC in one building to the network in another building
about 200 feet away. Because of the peculiarities of the location/building
there is a fair chance of lightening strike (this has happened and took out
a small PBX last time) so I need to opto isolate the new PC from the network
(i.e. I can't just run a length of CAT5 in). I don't want to use wireless as
this is a city centre location and I'm nervous about security.

The obvious answer would seem to be to use fibre. Trouble is I know nothing
about the topic!

I've done some digging on the net and it would appear I can purchase
something called a media converter for each end of the fibre which will
convert to/from RJ45. That's about as far as I got....

Not sure where to take this one now.....in particular I have no idea where I
can by fibre from - what specs are needed....whether I can buy the correct
lengths pre-terminated (I assume that it is 'impossible' to do a DIY
termination), how to physically handle it (I presume it needs more care than
copper!).

I'm based in the UK so answers relevant to the UK would be very useful!!

Many thanks for any help with this.....I'm sure I've used all the wrong
terms but I hope you get my gist!!
