how to add an access point to a wireless network

I've got a wireless router (Orinoco bg 2000) connected to a cable
modem and I want to add a Dell TrueMobile 2300 wireless router as a
wireless access point. Does the access point have to be wired to the
router or as a stand alone? My wireless nic cards don't have any way
to make a connection to any modem or router/access point. Also how do
I add the access point...just as another IP number (ie: 192.168.x.x)
Also the Dell router has better security so can I use this as an
access point or is it better to switch the two routers such that the
Dell is the router and the Orinoco is the access point ?

You need to wire the second Router/AP to the first. And yes I would
assign a static IP address so you can access it more easily. You can switch
the routers to get the better one attached to the modem. Just write
everything down, ie passwords, ipaddresses, mac addresses, etc.
I am not sure why you are adding the second router/AP. Your wireless
nodes should be able to connect to the first from 100ft. I have the Linksys
BEFW11S4, and get a little more distance with good signal.
