Hi,

thanks to my University's junk heap, I've recently acquired a
MegaPixel Color (N4001) monitor. I'd like to test it, but it won't fit
my mono Cube, obviously. I have a SparcStation 20 to connect it to,
but it doesn't show anything; when I switch it on, there are a couple
of faint ticks coming from the power supply, and then all is quiet.

Do these things work only on NeXT hardware (i.e. is there some cabling
magic there), or is it broken? Are there converters to plug these into
mono Cubes? Any help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Björn

These monitors require a special sync-on-green signal that sun machines
do not put out. You will need to have a Color machine and sound-box to
use your monitor on NeXT equipment. There is probably a way to hack a
soundbox to connect to your current machine and then use your monitor as
a regular mono monitor. You may also have some luck getting it to work
on SGI equipment but I wouldn't count on it.
