How would one go about installing the OS from CD onto a 68040
cube that has no floppy (Y2K updates came with CD's and boot
floppies)?

The trick is to get at the bootblock that understands 2048-byte sectors.
In the archives is a post from Mike Paquette where he describes
the procedure, naming it something like the "OD boot trick". You can
put the bootblock on any bootable device, though, so if you have no OD
but have an extra SCSI disk then you can use that. You might even be able
to use the disk that you intend to install on.
You could likely also do some kind of netboot procedure, but I don't
have much advice here as I don't think that I've ever net-booted NS.
