Doesn't boot from harddrive

My NeXTstation doesn't boot properly. The hard drive starts to spin, but
later the system test it just starts searching for a network. Is there
some kind of boot-menu I can access or is the hard drive broken?

I used COMMAND+~
it booted with bsd

Do you mean that it starts booting 'STEP from the disk, then stops when it
can't find the network? If so, enter the ROM monitor (Command-Command-` on
a non-ADB 'Station, RightCommand-` on an ADB 'Station), type 'bsd -s', and
when you get to the root prompt:

edit /etc/hostconfig, and change the lines:
HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-
INETADDR=-AUTOMATIC-
to, well, something else, e.g.
HOSTNAME=localhost
INETADDR=192.168.0.1

remove the "serves: ../network" property from /machines/broadcasthost in
NetInfo:
'niutil -destroyprop . /machines/broadcasthost serves'

reboot, and Bob would be your father's brother. Although sendmail may
complain, you can Ctrl-C it and remove it from the startup files.
