Hello

My name is Krzysztof and I need help with my NeXT.

Recently I managed to get the NeXT(N1100)mono with monitor(
N4000A),keyboard,mouse and laser printer, but unfortunetly without monitor
cable.
I surfed the web to find some tips how to make that kind of a cable from 2
DB 25 plugs.
Firstly I wanted to check if the computer works- so I made the dongle key to
simulate the POWER button pressing.Unfortunately I made it without resistor
(470 Ohm) .
When I connected the plug to the monitor junction , I connected the
power and pressed the button on the plug.I heard the powersupply
cooler and the HD working. Then I unpluged the plug.
Afterwards I made the monitor cable according to the instructions, and
connected them directly - pin 1 in the plug in the computer to pin 1 in the
plug in the monitor.Secondly I connected the monitor to the keyboard, mouse
,NeXT i turned the power on. I pressed the power button on the
keyboard and nothing, to computer did not start.I also tried to connect the
microswitch to the plug in the computer and simulate the start of the
computer but it also did not work.
What am I doing wrong ?
Could I by any chance damaged the computer?

I am asking for help to find the error.

Best Regards

This is beyond my knowledge of the cube. But as I understand it the
resistor is there just for a dummy load. That the powersupply won't turn
on unless it sees the load of the monitor there. I could be wrong. I
dunno how not having it would cause damage. Also it should be a momentary
push button switch, but I figure you know that.

Maybe the battery on the motherboard is dead? Hence no signal? Or
the keyboard has a problem or your cable has a problem.

If I am wrong about the resistor, then without it you shorted the
power switch line to ground directly. Don't know what problems that
could cause. The way I read the stuff it just wouldn't turn on without
the resistor.

NeXT with that old battery switched on for the first time so I assume it's
ok.
Maybe the reason is that I connected the pins from 13 to 19(GND) to the plug
together and connected them to the plug cover?
