Anyone know where I could get an old NeXT cube, tried ebay but it seemed
very dry. Just a few accessories :(
Would make such a cool terminal/browser.

Terminal, yes, but web browsing under NS can be painful. There aren't
any modern browsers.

As long as you don't have a NeXTdimension, then this is a possible
route. However, I don't know how well modern X apps deal with
greyscale visuals.

It might be very pretty, but I'd expect the X-windows app to take care of
the translation.

But historically instructive: the first web browser has been
implemented on NeXTSTEP!

Why not with a dimension? (As long as you have the Co-Xist with
dimension support)

Because, at least when I tried it ten years ago, it was sooooo sloooooow.

It depends on how the X server reports the available visuals. If, as
you say, it claims to have a TrueColor visual of some sort and then
does local dithering (or whatever) then things might be fine. If, on the
other hand, it claims to only support a two-bit greyscale visual (I don't
recall what these are called) then it's up to the X app to decide how to
deal with it. ISTR last year trying Mozilla from a 1-bit monochrome X
terminal and not having much joy.

Sure. And if you do your day-to-day web browsing with WorldWideWep.app,
you deserve a prize. :P
