21 inch NeXT monitor (N4005 according to channelu, have to check
if more detailed info is needed) made by hitachi
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The monitor has worked
fine up until this week where I was going along and *poof* it cuts out
like it had been unplugged. So I take it off, put on one of my 17 inchers
and put aside. Later I go look at it, look for anything obvious like
burned compontents, fuses, etc. everything fine. Powers back up. I
swap it back in.
Goes fine for a couple of days. Then yesterday I go
to turn it back on, nothing. no power, no fan, nothing. I had just
used it about an hour earlier and had turned it off. Doesn't come
back to life, so I take it apart, open up the power switch, do my best
to clean the contacts that I can't really see, nothing. take out a small
board that the power and switch go to before going to the main board,
examine it. (it was making some faint noise when the monitor was powered
on) Looks fine, no shorts or anything surprising as I probed with
a multimeter. tested switch too, works fine)
I give up and leave it for awhile. Later I decide to put it back together
other than the plastic case. Just for the hell of it, I power it back
up and it comes on. Didn't reconnect it to the computer but I am sure
the picture is fine just like before.
Any idea what's going on here? Do I risk more damage by continuing to
use it or should I just let it sit until it's fixed?
thanks,
-Bp
