Barracuda ST32550N & ADB ROM (UK)

Hi there

Please can somebody tell me if this drive Barracuda ST32550N will work in
and Turbo Colour Station, Can anybody suggest a better drive than this I
need it to replaced the faulty 2 GB Hawk that was originally a pull from a
Macintosh Quadra 840av

Can anybody tell me if they'd like to swap a ROM, Keyboard and Mouse out of
an ADB (v66 I think) Turbo Colour for a Non ADB Turbo ROM as I want to rid
myself of that dammed horrible keyboard.

For the above would I also need to change my soundbox & cable?

Yes, you'll need a Sound Box that groks ADB. Your Sound Box cable
may or may not be OK: IIRC, some of them passed the ADB lines and some
did not.

Actually I'm a bit unclear on a couple of points, If I swap then I need to
swap the KB, Mouse, Sound Box and Cables for equiv Non-ADB

I don't actually have a ST32550N yet, I intend to get one of ebay for a
fiver or so, my machine is not mission critical so that's not a big deal I'd
like to know if it works before I waste time and money fitting it, how about
heat build up in a slab will it be OK or am I better of with another Hawk,
do Quantum drive works OK. I want 2gb because I don't want to make a
disktab for anything bigger (don't know how and can't be bother to read how
to do it, don't tell me I know that a bad, lazy attitude) as I want to use
NS 3.3 Y2K.

I once had two ADB Turbos Colour Stations and one Non T/C Station, I had
one 2gb narrow Hawk with Apple firmware that worked OK in all 3 machines (it
formatted to 2gb OK), however I had what appeared to be exactly the same
drive but with Dell Firmware according to the sticker, that would only
format to 1gb in any of the NeXT machines but would format to 2gb in my
Macintosh Quadra 840av.

I guess it probably needed a disktab or something, does the ST32550N need a
disktab entery?

If you have an ADB cable right now, I believe that it will work fine
with a non-ADB Sound Box. It's the other way that's not guaranteed to
work properly.
