I've heard of people using illustrator to "render" site plans & elevations
created in Autocad. I would like to begin experimenting with it. I am new
to illustrator and have tried placing the dwg file but cant seem to figure
out how to "link" the linework to create color fields etc...
anyone out there willing to give a few pointers??
would certainly appreciate any help i can get!!!
thanks in advance

Chris,
I've had to deal with a lot of Autocad files from different architects
lately, opening them in Illustrator to edit and resave as eps files for a
Quark layout. I didn't know how to use Autocad, but had access to a copy to
help in the conversion process when necessary. My experience was that there
are some elements in Autocad that give Illustrator problems: polylines (you
have to select these and explode them), and hatches (some hatches just don't
translate correctly into Illustrator). Another good trick that worked for
me was to plot to a pdf from Autocad and open the pdf in Illustrator. This
usually worked pretty well. I don't know exactly what you're trying to
do... hope this helps.
Another Chris.
