Hello Friends!
I am using Illustrator for the last 3 years. But, recently I noticed a
very sensitive bug.
I work with a Graphics supplier (supplier to high-core publishers). We
use
to mix up raster & vector data in Illustrator to bring up good text
and
clear images.
I will have to make CMYK(for print), RGB(for web) and greyscale(B/W
print), from a single source (RGB or CMYK). Here, I am forced to do
this
conversion in Illustrator. While converting CMYK or RGB to Greyscale a
great deal of mis-representation is made.
It is not always easy to make images in all this three versions and
place
in illustrator. In a single page there may be 10-20 individual images
and
a huge set of vector data like text or clear vector graphics.
Converting RGB/CMYK to Greyscale in PhotoShop is superior. Then why so
with Illustrator. Can this be rectified?
Please give your views.
Thanks,
Lince ML

Could you define what you mean by "mis-representation"?

Hello n8
Mis-representation means mis-representation of colours while converting.
Just try out this example: draw 7 boxes of some 2-3 cm breadth. fill the
with 7 different colours of the rainbow (VIBGIOR). Rasterise it and
then convert to greyscale (in Illustrator). Do the same procedure in
Photoshop. Now you could be more clear of my trouble ......
Please. I welcome more comments. And, have pleasure in explaining any
unclear argument in by first thread
Eager to hear more!
Thanks,

First, why are you rastering your vector art before converting to greyscale?
Second, are you using the same color profile in Illustrator 'and' Photoshop?
I performed the test you suggested and got the same results from photoshop
and illustrator...

Thanks for the RE!
Firstly, I asked you to rasterise in illustrator just for simulating a
situation I am facing. Secondly, try out taking prints of the
simulated PS
and Illu versions
The instant: I am having an Illustrator RGB mode page. 4 images with
different resolutions are placed. A rich amount of 100% black and some
0%
black text are fitted. Now, I want CMYK, RGB. & Greyscale output from
this
same file.
For Greyscale there is no similar colour profile in Illustrator
matching
with Photoshop. If there is some please let me know about it. As only
two
modes available for Illu (RGB/CMYK) than that of PS (5 Modes), i don't
think mode in Illu can be made = Mode in PS. Please let me know if it
is
possible.
Please do respond!
