Hi ... newbie questions for you all:
I appreciate any and all help you folks can provide.

I'm actually asking for my wife. She's doing newsletter layouts in Adobe
Pagemaker ( which I know NOTHING about).
She's receiving tons of content from different people - some TIF, some JPG,
some ads where the text has been rendered
with the rest of the image and is un-editable ( and jagged-edged).

So... she imports all of these things into Pagemaker, and winds up with a
mish-mash of high-quality text ( done in Pagemaker)
and low-quality text (rendered and sent to her), High quality images and
low-quality ones, etc etc. We both understand Photoshop
fairly well, as well as the issues with photos regarding DPI, image size
etc, but some questions we have are:

1) What is a "raster" image?
2) Should she be asking for (demanding) content in specific file formats?
3) Is Adobe Illustrator ( which we both have, yet don't know well) the only
way to get Vector-based graphics?
4) Is there a specific file format she should use when saving the whole
thing to send to a printer?
5) Is all of this horribly off-topic for this NG, and do you want to kill me
by now?
6) Is there a Pagemaker Newsgroup which I was unable to find?

TIA

Jake

comp.graphics.apps.pagemaker

if this stuff is going to a printer, the printer should be able to tell you the best
file types; i believe they like eps best but the chances of getting those from people
submitting to your publication are probably slim. i would certainly tell submitters
not to give you any text in a graphic form, only to send pictures with text
separately so that you can convert it.

good luck!!
