Is there any viewers that can handle .AI files.
At the moment I use acdsee for my bitmap images but I would really like to
be able to view my vector images.

Try fotostation. I love it. Fast, cross platform, very easy to catalogue, drag
and drop into all Adobe programs, etc. There's a 15-day free trial.

If you are using version 9 or higher, Acrobat can view the file. If
you're using OS X on a Mac, Preview can also, but it is likely to get
transparency wrong.

If you'r using Windows 2000 or XP, thumbnails are generated by Illustrator
itself and are used within Windows Explorer (preview as icons). Choose
View->Large icons to see all the AI (or PSD) files in Explorer.

Actually its View > thumbnails

I use the thumbnails useful with large numbers of files but sometimes I
need to refresh the images as they don't always show the correct one.
