As I stated, the customer was not asked to pay for it at any point until the end. It was an IT investigative project from the get-go. At least, that's my understanding. Don't distort facts, Gerold.
please get to know the facts before blaming others to
distort the facts:
1. if i interpret the XP euphoria starting article
Chrysler Goes to “Extremes” By the “C3 Team”
distributed computing, issue10/1998.
at http://www.xprogramming.com/publications/dc9810cs.pdf
correctly (particularly the box on page 27),
than the C3 project target was to substitute 3 legacy payroll
applications that payed a total of 86000 employees. as we learn
in this article it was supposed to do so by mid 1999.
2. as you can read in my paper at
http://www.avoca-vsm.com/Dateien-Download/ExtremeProgramming.pdf ,
C3 did not pay at any point in time more than 10000 people and was
cancelled in february 2000.
3. at http://www.xp.co.nz/XP_Seminar.htm , however, we read the
following:
"The Economist", an international weekly usually more concerned
with global economics than technology, ran an article on the impact
of XP in its edition of 9 December 2000. The article talked about
the origins of XP:
"XP was invented in 1996, when Kent Beck, a software developer,
was called in by an American car maker, Chrysler, to rescue a project
which had proved so frustrating that it had been scrapped. As Mr Beck
worked on this benighted venture, known as Chrysler Comprehensive
Compensation (C3), he formulated a set of directions for keeping code
'elegantly written'. The C3 system now provides correct monthly payroll
information for more than 86,000 employees. It's success is ascribed to
Mr Beck's golden rules."
conclusion: either we are confusing 2 projects which by incident have the
same name or the "best team in the world" was more of a "best mock-up
team" in the world.
best regards,
gerold

"best" regards?
How do we know they really are the BEST regards?
Remember that the one making a claim is the one required to prove it, GK.
If you are the one who wrote "best", are you prepared to PROVE they really
are BEST, not "better than many other regards", but actually better than
ALL of them?
