On the road to testing transactions

Well, we have been met by a reasonable demand from our bookkeeping
department to verify and prove that our transactions are atomic, and
that they fail when they should, and completes successfully when
that's the thing to do.
Can anyone lead me on the road to success, and come with some good
links on the matter.

By the way, we are using J2EE, and testing with JUnit. Our client is
using Swing.
