ole2 and oracle forms

I'm trying to convert a word doc into a postscript format.
I open the word doc
Print Preview it
and then PrintOut using Print to File = true

My code only works when I open the word doc. first and then call the
PrintPreview method before PrintOut. If I remove the PrintPerview method
call, my postscript file is not generated. If I dont open the doc, it
doesnt work. Why is that so - is my code incorrect?
Is there another way to convert to postscript without displaying the
word app. to the user?

Also, how can I tell if there is already an instance of word
opened already?
