View Full Version : Putting Categories in a Group

I have a bunch of categories that I want to label with either
"discretionary" or "mandatory" for the group. It looks like I have to do it
one at a time (at least with sub-categories). Is there anyway to assign a
group choice to several sub-categories at a time?

Your desire is not 100% clear.
The selection method for your purposes is the same as the
typical Windows selection method.
If you want to select multiple categories - sub or otherwise -
you can select them the same as you would select in other
Windows applications. If the categories (or sub-cateogories)
are alphabetically (visually) consecutive, you can select the
first one, then scroll to the last desired category, hold down
the Shift key and click.
If the categories (or sub-categories) are not alphabetically
(visually) consecutive; you can use the CTRL key. Put your
cursor on each category/sub-category you wish to select while
holding down the CTRL key.
In Q2002, you would click "Category Groups", then select the
group you want to assign your categories to. Then move your
cursor to the "Category Name" list and follow the Windows
selection methods, then click "Assign Category To Group".

I'm in the "Category and Transfer List" grid when I try to do this. I
already tried using the shift and CTRL methods you describe, and neither
seems to work.

Sorry, I assumed (don't know why) that you were in the Budget.
If you go to the Budget and click the "Category Groups" button,
you will be able to select multiple categories/sub-categories
and assign groups to them.

Also, from the "Category and Transfer List" page, if you click "Options" and
then "Assign Category Groups", a box will pop up where you can assign
multiple categories at a time.

Yes, good point. Same dialog as the Budget, but closer to where
you want it.
