difference of sqlplus in hp than sun

You have WEIRD results all around.
FWIW - V$SESSION has many, many more columns than the 5 displayed.
I suspect that SCOTT might even have a private synonym for V$SESSION.
In the future ALWAYS include Oracle Version(s)!
