Hi everybody,
I'm using Oracle 9i,Release 2,Developer Suite.I have
also installed the database.Connection in the database(9i,Release 2)
is not creating any problem.I can log in through sqlplus. But, when I
try to connect through the Forms Developer...it says...ORA-12154 (TNS
cannot resolve service name). But the tnsnames.ora file seems to
allright and in proper place. What could cause the problem. Is
installation of Application Server necessary for connecting forms to
the database???
Thanks,
Pinaki

It ALWAYS helps to specify the OS & Version.
FWIW - If you have multiple ORACLE_HOME directories,
you'll have multiple TNSNAMES.ORA files. I strongly
suspect that iDS has a different home than SQL*plus;
and therefore success with SQL*Plus is not relevant
to a network connect from iDS.

Hi,
I am using Windows 2K(Professional)...I have two tnsnames.ora
files. One for the DB and one for forms. But the one for forms looks
ok(it's been generated by the Net8 configuration tools) and they are
definitely in two different homes.
Any help would be really appreciated...
Thanks,
Pinaki

Which was installed first? Forms or the database? Oracle advises, and it
works much better, if Forms is installed first.
If not ... get back to basics. Go to metalink and look up the
information on having multiple homes. You likely will need to
change the default Oracle Home manually or with the tool Oracle
provides. Be sure to test your changes with TNSPING.

Isn't there an environment variable, TNS_ADMIN, that can be set to identify
the directory identifying the TNSNAMES.ORA file you want to use? I think
that setting this environment variable overrides the use of the tnsnames.ora
files that are specific to each ORACLE_HOME.
Good luck,
Richard
