Hello all,
I just did a full export from Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 8. The export
terminated successfully without warnings and I got a ~1.3GB .dmp file as I
expected. I didn't use any compression. I FTP'd the .dmp file to my dev
server and ran imp, which says:
IMP-00037: Character set marker unknown
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
I re-ran the export, again FTP'd the file in binary mode, and got the same
result again.
A few days ago I was able to import a file exported form this same database.
Is there something that would cause a database to begin producing only
corrupted export files?
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Phil Thompson

I think that when you get this error using an export file that is known to
not be corrupt, they you are supposed to start an TAR and submit the export
file to Oracle (if possible). Of course, you can't be absolutely sure that
the export file is not corrupt, but since you've tried a number of different
times and are still having problems, I'd consider starting an TAR on
MetaLink.
