Hi,

Has anyone worked out if there is actually anything new in DS 10g.

I have just installed and after a quick scout around nothing appears to be
different - not even
webutil has been included as a production release.

It seems its just 9i rebadged !

Regards

Maybe that's why it's also known as (9.0.4)....

There are major differences in JDeveloper. Can't speak to the rest of
the suite.

Agree, JDeveloper would appear to be the only part of the suite that has
been invested in.

Check out OTN for a list of new features.
Most of them are enhancment to the deployment platform.
For Forms for example you get better SSO and OEM integration,
pre-start runtime, JDK 1.4 and more.

I'm not surprised. There seems to be little new to do that wouldn't
require a major investment. And there is not enough interest in the
product among developers and DBAs to justify it.

These days everyone prefers to bang code first and specify requirements
later. Designer requires a methodology and training. Both rare
commodities in most organizations. (and IMLTHO it writes lousy Forms code).

Same story during her UK Oracle User Group conference presentation - to
the extent that XML data-types might never be supported...

The full name for the latest Developer Suite release is Oracle
Developer Suite 10g(9.0.4). This does mean that some of the products
in the suite, such as Designer, are the 9.0.4 release with minor
changes. Other tools in the suite have significant changes, such as
Forms, as was pointed out in a separate posting.
Over the past year, the Designer development team has added features
to Designer in an ongoing basis. e.g Features such as the Repository
Object Browser, which gives users the ability to query their
repositories using a browser was made available in a release early in
2003. See http://otn.oracle.com/products/designer for more.
