Hi to all,

Does anybody know why I got the error message "Inventory location is
invalid" when I start the Oracle 9i installation?
Precisely, I insert the cd#1, click on "Start installation" option, the
Oracle Universal Installer 2.2 window appears but I got the error after
few seconds.

thanks in advance

Lets start with the basics. What hardware and operating system are
you using? Oh and which version of 9i?

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that Oracle was previously
installed on the machine when it had a different configuration.

Intel Pentium III, 512 Mb RAM, 800 Mhz, 10Gb hd, Windows XP professional.
It's the first time I install Oracle on this computer because it has
been recently reformatted. The version of 9i is 9i Server

9i version will be either Personal, Standard or Enterprise Edition ...
there is no such thing as "Server" though there is the 9i Application
Server which is an entirely different product ... not the database.
Hopefully you don't have that.

But at this point you have me stumpted. Not a problem I've ever seen
before ... once again ... provided you have the database and not 9iAS.

I fixed the problem,
I work for a company that puts out an image of the operating system
through the network that installs, as you rightly supposed, an older
version of oracle and locks it down (the uninstall button was grey).
So I got arond it by removing it from the registry, deleting files from
disk and the rebooting. After that the install went fine.

Thank you for your suggestion.
it was really usefull
