Hello Everyone, Is there anyway to customize QuickBooks reports using
Seagate Crystal Report 8.5 or 9. Some of the reports in QuickBooks looks
really ugly. Thanks for any feedback.

You can customize most reports using capabilities built into Quickbooks.

There's an ODBC driver from qodbc.com (I have no relationship with
this company) that lets any ODBC aware application like Crystal
Reports, etc, to interface with QB 2002 and later in real time - no
need to export data first.

Try it out and see if it can do what you're after. I also tried to use
Crystal Reports with QB for reporting, because the internal QB
reports, including its own report customization, are severely limited
and insufficient for even the simplest reporting a small business
needs, but I have a very hard time accessing the data I need with
Crystal Reports.

The driver is extremely slow and I haven't been able to do something
productive even with the small QB sample company files, let alone the
120MB files I planned to use Crystal Reports with. The internal QB
table structure is so convoluted that it will take some serious time
to figure out what table indexes you need to associate with each other
before you are able to put something on a piece of paper.

If you have intermediate to advanced experience with Crystal Reports
you may do better than me, in which case, please post back with your
findings.

The slow driver is a big problem. I solved it by using QBFC2 to create
a Foxpro database. Then I was able to build flexible reports quickly.

Do you mean you exported the data to a database first?

How did you create the Foxpro database? If you could describe the
steps in general maybe I can try to find out what I have to learn to
do the same thing. I don't have Foxpro but if you can create a Foxpro
database you can probably create an Access database too.

Although I'm mostly looking for a real-time ability to pull data from
QB for reporting, it will come in handy for less frequent reports.

Thanks for your time.
