There were a number of Omegas and Alphas delivered at the Big Ben Show and
I'm advised that two batches have (or are being) delivered at this time. A
third batch should clear the orders.

Dunno/care.
MD don't want to talk to the press or otherwise advertise the fact so I
can only assume that they're still being given out to selected people
behind closed doors who've sworn on their grandmas motorcycle not to
utter a word to the press about the machines they receive.
Cheers!

I saw one Omega delivered to an end user in public. (Yes, I do have
pictures to prove it).
I've mentally added this to the two that I saw delivered at Wakefield :)
and I'm advised
By whom?
that two batches have (or are being) delivered at this time. A third batch should clear the orders.
That's good news (especially since Paddy Reid is visiting ROUGOL this
month!)
If there's about one thousand orders altogether (is that right?), and the
batches are equal in size, then somewhere between three hundred and six
hundred Omegas have been delivered so far.
I presume that most of the recipients are busy setting them up? Or
perhaps the weather is too nice for them to post anything to the internet?
Did your informant have any news on whether the ethernet or USB was
working yet?

Anybody who has got one care to comment on what it's like, what is
included, when the stuff that is not included will be delivered?

I believe the batches are not of the same size.

Given that MD admitted that those Omega machines were still in test and
were going to carefully selected users who knew what they were getting,
that wasn't really "delivered" in the usual sense. They were machines for
beta testers.

I've not seen many joyful postings from Omega owners yet... Perhaps the
lack of networking is hampering their attempts to get online, or perhaps
they've all been banned from speaking to the nasty, money grabbing press?

I suspect that the batch which is 'shipping' (if that is the case) will be a
small one to 'developers' (i.e. beta testers). Normally, these people will
be under NDA (non-disclosure agreements) so you should probably not expect
any RISC OS Mark results or other comments posted to csa* any time soon!

That was supposed to have happened at the South West show in February.
20 odd "next week"'s ago.

No more than you deserve Cartmell!! (only kidding)
Do we know how big the batches were, even roughly? If the figure of
1000 is even close to being correct, that would be quite a number
indeed. I do find it very odd how even though a couple of dealers say
they are shipping (and I certainly do not doubt their word), we have
not heard from anyone who actually has one.
If we take as fact that Omegas are shipping in numbers to real users,
then why isn't MD singing and dancing about it?
Cheers

I would guess that even if they did, they wouldn't want the press to tell
anybody? It all seems very odd to me.

Remember, MicroDigital are here today, but the press will *always* be with
you.
Talk to the press or not, ask magazine editors to leave or not, one can't
have a public presentation without accepting that representatives of the
press may be recording (ahem) everything that's said and seen.
It all seems very odd to me.
It doesn't seem like anything to me - I got my deposit back months ago.
Come along to ROUGOL next Monday, see the Omega in action! Maybe even
take one away? Or at least meet your local Omega dealer (if you're still
vaguely near Cambridge).
