View Full Version : Removing A3020 PSU Screws

Hiya

Anyone know what I need to remove the black screws that hold in the PSU on
the A3020 (and hence the PCB and bottom metal sheet) as I'd like to fit a
hard drive to the one I've got here.

Is it something B&Q is likely to have or will I need to send off to
Rapid/RS etc for it?

Cheers

Are they those star shaped recess types? I can't recall the name, but I
think you'll find bits for them at B&Q & the like. Sorry not to be of more
help...

When I had a couple of A3020s I needed to get into I couldn't be bothered
to wait for the hardware shops to open, so I used a Dremmel with a
grinding disc (about 1" across) to cut a groove in each head to allow
removal with a flat bladed screwdriver. This did also cut a shallow grove
in the surrounding case, but that didn't bother me. Perhaps this is an
option open to you if all else fails.

Don'thave an A30202 handy to check but ISTR that they are Allen screws -
just need a suitable size Allen key from your local hardware/car parts
store.
Could be wrong of course.

Swiss Army (victorinox) cybertool has the right bit.

But if you don't want to spend about 50ukp, try looking on tool stalls
at a market. (In Kent it is usually possibly to by a screwrdriver and a
set of bits for a pound each)

If anyone need to know (and finds this thread via google or somesuch) it appears to be a 2mm hex bit.

It would certainly be worth while for anyone who may be planning to take
any modernish electrical thingy's apart, to invest in a set of security
bits.

Maplins Stock such but Screwfix have a better kit. Price is the same,
somewhat close to a tenner.

Regards Ron.

To complement this thread, if anyone is after a 540MB, 2.5" IBM drive
then make me an offer. It is very quiet and has no bad sectors, build
date June 1996.

This has been running in an A3020 and my RPC via onboard IDE and ACRCIN.
Unfortunatly I don't have a 2mm pitch cable, having given that away a
long time ago.

The screws are actually Torx, but some sizes of allen keys will fit and turn
some sizes of Torx if they are not stiff, they tend to damage the head
though!

Yes, but the cost of housing more than compensates...
