Sorry about this folks.
I have a Canon BJC620 which has served me well but I will shortly
need a colour printer that can produce documents better than 720dpi
and with photo realistic colour. (Is this possible with RISC OS
!Printers/drivers?)
What do you consider is the best value? i.e. taking finished output,
speed, reliability, price and support into account.
Thanks for your help.
Gary
BTW: I *don't* have USB on my RPC ATM

A colleague has just gone on Holiday and loaned me his NEW Canon i550, This printer has both USB and Parrell connections. I contacted Chris of Photodesk Ltd and he kindly emailed me the S750 photoreal driver to try on it. First trials on my RiscPC of the S750 driver on Canon's i550 look faverable with the print out the same, as I can tell, with the Epson Photoreal driver on my ageing Stylus PhotoEX. I used Castles i550 RISC OS Printer definition file (PrntDefn) for print outs from !Publisher,!Techwriter Etc.
The !S750 printer control program (supplied with the photoreal driver) stopped at the last registration test, and that could be because I was using FastSpool. Will report in more detail later.
Thanks Brian.
I've been looking at the i550 today. What's the best resolution you
can get using the RISC OS PDF with this printer. As I mentioned above
the best I can get is 720 x 720dpi and pictures can still look a
little 'grainy'
Cheers

<<snipped>> In normal dot addressable mode you can only driver the printer up to 600dpi, Photodesks 'Photoreal' driver uses the drop modulation mode which I believe is 1200dpi, printers that talk of 2400dpi or even 4800dpi can normally achieve that in one axis e.g. are 4800x1200. Which is only very marginally better than 1200x1200. Photodesks S750 driver only works in 'photoreal' mode i.e. slow it also does not support text printing. Our driver does both, so is ideal addition to Photodesks driver. As I mentioned above the best I can get is 720 x 720dpi and pictures can still look a little 'grainy' I think you will find that it is 600 x 600dpi the i550 does not have a 720dpi mode.
Ah...yes... this is getting a tad confusing! I was refering to the
Canon BJC620 that I already own.
WRT >1200x1200 dpi are you saying that the visual difference in the
final output is hardly noticable and that it's really only marketing
speak?

After further trials with the S750 photoreal driver on the i550
I am getting strange effects with the aspect ratio not correct
and the positioning on the page out. The Picture prints at the
top of the page no matter where you place in Photodesk prinout
window.

Try transferring the picture to !Draw and printing from that to check that
this is not one of the old Photodesk printing 'funnies' recurring again.
