news:4c14a42e29tudor@argonet.co.uk... Hello I was trying to get an A310 operational again. Because the RAM batteries had more or less disintegrated I have lost the original settings. The machine was fitted with a small IDE drive. This is a 2.5 inch unit mounted on a card and the ROM is labelled A400 IDE V1.00. No matter what values I give the configure variables the drive produces an error. The same happens with a spare drive I found in a box. I'm looking for the correct configure values for IDEFSTimer, IDEFSDelay and IDEFSFirCache. There may well be something else I am not aware of. Does anybody know?
I have an HCCS manual in front of me, and on the first page it says...
*Con. IDEFSDiscs 1 [RETURN]
*Con. IDEFSDrive 4 [RETURN]
*Con. IDEFSDelay 8 [RETURN]
*Con. IDEFSTimer 4 [RETURN]
*Con. IDEFSDircache 32 [RETURN]
[CTRL]+[BREAK]
Hope this helps.
Gerald.

I don't know if it's relevant, but I think on these cards the three IDE
connectors (internal 3.5", internal 2.5", and external) are three separate
IDE buses, so you might need different configurations for drives on
different connectors.

They don't work with the small card mounted drive but they do work with a separate standard drive also from HCCS. Thanks again Jochen

Hi,
incase you are new to the comp.sys.acorn news groups, there are three little
conventions that we follow to make it far easier for everyone to read.
1) The reply you type should be after the previous message(s) text, or
interleaved with it. Not at the top, which is the default for some PC
software such as Outlook Express - this particular program can be fixed
with a patch from http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/
2) You should edit the previous message(s) to just the points directly
relevant to your reply, and not just include the entire thing.
3) Make sure all your lines are less than 76 characters wide, to prevent
unsightly spillage of odd words on to the next line, and to make it
easier for people replying.

You questioned whether Paul was new to the csa newsgroups but you may
remember that he was the support person for Aleph One sometime ago and would
regularly help out with tips for the 486 cards.

That is no excuse. If you are sending a tick off to someone who you
believe has transgressed, you might at least find out how to use your own
news software - or even learn how to cancel a post.
It sets a very bad example to those who are a bit new to newsgroups and
think that an apology os all that is needed when a mistake is made. They
must realise that BLOOD is required at the very least.

Canelling wont do any good these days, the majority of servers ignore cancel
requests, after some spammers decided to abuse the system by cancelling and
superseeding genuine articles with spam.

Providing new users with information on how to make a valuable contribution
to the the newsgroups, and not pissing off the existing users with sloppy
PC style posting will be of far greater benefit.

Erm... was that a deliberate mistake? Or a helpful comment aimed at a newby?
